May 24, 2016

The US-based GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) maker Nvidia is going to collaborate with the Taipei City Government to establish its first VR (Virtual Reality) Lab in Neihu District, Taipei, reported China Times on May 23. This lab will offer VR equipment such as HTC Vive and Oculus headsets, NVIDIA VR Ready hardware, and fundamental training and technical supports to startups and software developers, facilitating cooperation in the VR industry. Taipei City Government will provide Nvidia with up to NT$5 million (US$ 153,926, US$1=NT$32.5) of subsidy to contribute to the development of VR technologies in Taiwan. Earlier, Nvidia had held three VR boot camps in collaboration with Taiwan's III (Institute for Information Industry), attracting over 300 participants in total. The boot camps showed that there was a strong need for VR technology and knowledge in Taiwan, said the company.
